Jamie Cahill-Kearns is a marketing assistant at Kogan Page.

What do you do?

There are lots of things I do every week to assist our busy department. From building newsletters and helping to organise our attendance at events, to creating social media graphics and answering customer queries. I’m never short of things to do!

How did you get your role?

I applied through an agency, having worked in Foyles and volunteered on the Society of Young Publishers' committee to gain some experience.

What do you love about your role?

I especially enjoy the chances I get to be creative: designing graphics, writing copy, commissioning banner ads, etc. My teammates are super easy to work with, and we also find time to have a laugh.

Why did you want to work in publishing?

For love of books! I enjoy helping other people discover titles that can enrich and ultimately advance their lives.

What would be your top tip for someone who wants to work in publishing?

Get involved with the industry. It’s a competitive recruitment space, so anything you can do to impress potential employers is so important. Getting involved with the Society of Young Publishers really helped me understand the industry better, and definitely made a difference when it came to me getting that first job. I’d highly recommend it!
