The activities of the International Division are guided by the PA’s International Board, whose members are drawn from PA member companies and are appointed on the basis of their experience of international markets. Also included on the Board are the chairs of the PA’s regional working parties, which work in parallel with the Board and focus on specific geographical regions. A number of additional Board members are co-opted to provide specialist advice on for example copyright and book procurement for developing countries.

- the protection of publishers’ assets outside the UK and the reduction of piracy
- the provision of high quality information on markets and key issues affecting publishers
- market development activities to help publishers increase their activity in existing and new markets
- Advise the International Division on policy to be pursued in the territory in question
- Consider any problem in overseas markets concerning the promotion, sale, distribution and copyright infringement of British books
- Advise on and take part in any possible promotional opportunities in overseas markets for British books
- Advise on outward and inward trade delegations
- Assist in the compilation of Global Publishing Information (GPI) market surveys for the territories in their region
- Assist the International Division in compiling submissions to Government as and when required
- Recommend and assist in the organisation of open forums on territories in their region
