The European research ecosystem is something to be immensely proud of and academic publishers of all types and sizes, both in the UK and across the EU, are here to support that ecosystem and contribute to its success.

Publishers validate and curate knowledge, making it accessible, discoverable and usable for everyone. As a diverse group of impartial businesses, we support robust and peer review processes, quality control and production, discoverability and maintaining the scholarly record. The principles outlined today of academic freedom, research integrity and scientific excellence, as well as maximum accessibility and reusability of research results are what drives the academic publishing sector every day.

The Publishers Association calls on European lawmakers to involve European publishers as key partners in achieving the aspirations published today. Our academic publisher members operate across Europe and have worked hard and invested in a wide range of models and tools that enable open access, whilst upholding research integrity and quality, and are a key delivery partner in driving value for EU research and researchers.

Dan Conway, CEO of the Publishers Association said:

“As a sector we want to work alongside European lawmakers on a roadmap for scholarly publishing that drives research excellence and supports EU research institutions and researchers. We urge dialogue with European and global publishing bodies as this progresses.”
