AI and the Future of Publishing panel

NewsPress Release

On Thursday 8th October, experts from across government and research sectors will examine the impact of artificial intelligence on the publishing industry at a virtual event hosted by the Publishers Association.

The event marks the launch of the Publishers Association’s report with Frontier Economics entitled People Plus Machines: The role of AI in publishing.

As well as presenting an audit of how publishers use AI, the report examines how technological developments may impact existing IP frameworks. The event will therefore discuss pertinent questions such as who owns the copyright to a book written exclusively by AI and how intellectual property law and policy can keep pace with technological developments?

Chaired by Annie Callanan, President of the Publishers Association and CEO of Taylor & Francis, the speakers on the all-female panel are:

•          Ros Lynch, Director of Copyright and IP Enforcement, Intellectual Property Office

•          Sana Khareghani, Head of Office for AI, DCMS and BEIS

•          Catherine Etienne, Senior Associate, Frontier Economics

Stephen Lotinga, Chief Executive of the Publishers Association, said:

“We are delighted to bring together this panel of highly-esteemed experts to discuss the role Artificial Intelligence will play in the UK’s publishing industry. The possibilities AI technologies offer publishing are very exciting and our research has found that we are at a watershed moment in terms of investment.”

The event is free for members of the Publishers Association and £30 for non-members (excludes tax and booking fees). You can book tickets here.
