Work in Publishing Week Returns

Careers in PublishingPress Release

The Publishers Association’s Work in Publishing campaign returns today, with events due to take place before concluding on Friday 18th November. The national campaign is to inspire people aged 16+ to consider a career in publishing.

Everyone working in publishing can join in with the campaign by sharing why they love to #WorkInPublishing and amplifying careers information that will be shared by the Publishers Association, publishers and other partners throughout the week.

Ruth Howells, Director of Communications, said: “Work in Publishing Week is a great way to inspire the next generation and help them learn more about this brilliant industry. We are proud to be running this campaign again this year and look forward to hearing the fascinating stories and advice that always comes from it.

“To further demonstrate our commitment to encouraging the next generation of diverse talent into publishing, we will also be formally launching the OpenBooks initiative, alongside the Booksellers Association and Association of Authors’ Agents, at the FutureBook conference at the end of the week. This is a brand new series of free, accessible online events primarily targeting young talent from underrepresented backgrounds.

“We encourage everyone to get involved this week – join a webinar, or even just share a tweet with the hashtag #WorkInPublishing. Even the smallest contribution could spark an idea somewhere.”

Activity for this year’s Work in Publishing campaign includes:

  • Creative Access and Penguin Random House will be hosting a ‘Get into publishing’ webinar where panelists will share how to get started in the industry, the day-to-day of their roles, and the variety of careers on offer in the industry.
  • SAGE Publishing will be sharing a video with their UK Books team who demystify what it is like to work in publishing.
  • BookMachine are highlighting their career journey into publishing across their social media channels.
  • The Publishers Association will be highlighting the range of careers resources available on the Publishers Association website as well as hosting written Q&As with people highlighting their journey in publishing.
