As part of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport’s social media campaign #CreateUK week, The Publishers Association engaged in a variety of digital activity to showcase the phenomenal success of UK publishing and the creative sector.

#CreateUK week, which this year ran from 29th June – 3rd July 2015, is a DCMS initiative designed to explore and celebrate the achievements of the UK creative industries.

As a £4.3 billion sector with export sales accounting for 44% of revenue, UK publishing is an integral and innovative part of the creative sector.  Across the week The PA showcased industry achievements and shared advice for people wishing to kick-start a career in publishing. This included:

  • A blog by HarperCollins CEO, Charlie Redmayne, on what publishers looks for in prospective candidates;
  • ‘Top Tips’ tweets from senior industry figures Dominic Knight of Macmillan, Jo Prior of Penguin Random House and Cally Poplak of Egmont on how to navigate a career in publishing ;
  • UK publishing’s international success was highlighted through a series of export stories from Nosy Crow, Sweet Cherry Publishing and Jolly Learning.
  • An opportunity to win a day shadowing Helen Kogan and the team at Kogan Page through the #CreativeCareers competition.

The PA’s Chief Executive, Richard Mollet, said:

“The UK’s publishing and creative industries are world-leaders and it is great that the DCMS is actively involved in promoting this, especially to young people looking to get into the creative sector.”
