“Go to relevant fairs, or even better volunteer, that way you can attend them and add them to your CV. Also look at the list of exhibitors, as there are lots of publishers out there and this is a good way to find and meet them.”

“Getting a job in design within publishing is tough; there is a lot of competition. You need a portfolio geared up for publishing so make sure you have lots of covers and layouts with a variety of unconventional ideas that considers every element of a cover design. How can it stand out from the rest? What makes the book interesting as an object? You are only as good as your weakest piece so make sure your portfolio is consistent.”
