Letterbox Library

Make sure Letterbox Library is aware of any diverse titles.

Letterbox Library is a children’s booksellers, specialising in books that celebrate equality, diversity and inclusion. We are a not-for-profit social enterprise, founded in 1983. Our main customers are from the education sector, including schools and nurseries.

Letterbox Library is famous for its book selection process: uniquely, all of our books are reviewed by an independent team of volunteers, made up of teachers, librarians, social workers, young people and children. Books are vetted for their inclusion aspects as well as their overall quality in text and artwork.

Our catalogue of books includes bookpacks specially tailored to the education sector, for example, Refugee/Migration Narratives and Diverse Families. We sell through our website, at events and at festivals. Letterbox Library also runs the Little Rebels Award for Radical Children’s Fiction on behalf of the ARB (Alliance of Radical Booksellers). We also offer training to schools and organisations, mainly on diverse children’s books and reading for pleasure as well as using books to explore challenging issues in the classroom.

Letterbox Library was IBBY UK’s nomination for the Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award in 2015.
