The Book Trade Charity (BTBS) supports past, present and future publishing professionals with grants and housing. They have recently announced a housing benefit scheme for those just starting out in the industry.

A refurbished block of six flats at their housing project in Whetstone, London N20 is available immediately, for periods of 6-12 months.  Each self-contained flat has its own kitchen and bathroom; three are offered as one bedroom plus a living room for single occupation (possibly two people if sharing a bedroom) plus three comprising two bed-sits, sharing kitchen/bathroom between them.

Transport links to London are excellent: Piccadilly line at Arnos Grove and the Northern line at Totteridge and Whetstone, with buses running close by and regularly to these stations.

Rents per flat will be £734 PCM for single occupation and £768 PCM for two people, including wi-fi and utilities (Council Tax extra).

The project is aimed at people in their first (possibly second) full-time role in the trade, or on internships (minimum 6 months), on salaries of less than £25k and who could not otherwise afford to live in London and/or would find commuting too difficult. If the only issue is the cost of travel, there is a separate scheme, particularly for internships, of any length.
