So apparently, in two and a half years the Coalition government has notched up full-on forty policy u-turns, what with its changing tack on everything from pasties to forestry.  In any circumstances this would be worthy of remark, but in a month which has solemnly marked the passing of a former Prime Minister who made a virtue of her refusal to drive around a hair-pin bend, it is all the more noteworthy.
