Book Industry Communication (BIC) is the UK organisation set up and
sponsored by the Publishers Association, Booksellers Association, the
Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals and the
British Library to promote supply chain efficiency in all sectors of
the book world through e-commerce and the application of standard
processes and procedures.
Copyright Infringement Portal is an online service for publishers developed by The PA. It facilitates the fight against online piracy by automating the notice and takedown process to websites that offer access to illicit publications protected by copyright. It also enables the publishing industry to gather evidence about the nature and scale of different types of piracy, and approaches for tackling them.
EDItEUR is the international organisation that coordinates
development of the standards infrastructure for electronic commerce in
the book and journal publishing sectors. EDItEUR provides its membership with research, standards and guidance in such diverse areas as e-commerce transactions, bibliographic
and product information, rights management and trading, radio frequency
identification tages, and all aspects of standards infrastructure for
digital publishing. The PA is represented on the EDItEUR Management Committee via BIC and the PLS.
Publishers Licensing Society (PLS) is the
organisation established by The PA, the Periodical Publishers
Association, and the Association of Learned and Professional Society
Publishers. While its main role is to oversee a collective licensing
scheme in the UK for book, journal, and magazine copying it is also
active at the intersection of copyright and digital technology where it
aims to stimulate innovation and good practice in rights management,
and to clarify the relationship between traditional copyright
management practices and those needed in the digital age.
