The Publishers Association comments on the government response to the Hargreaves Review of Intellectual Property.
Mr Cable is backing many of the recommendations made by an independent review led by Professor Ian Hargreaves, which includes copyright exceptions that will make it easier for scientists to mine electronic journals to help to make discoveries.
Though scientists welcome the new provisions, publishing groups are expected to oppose the move. Richard Mollet, chief executive of the Publishers Association, described the allowance of data mining as “deeply concerning”.
