End of the paperback? Sony launches 'ebook'

The Sony Reader, already a hit in America, is to be launched in Waterstones stores across the country. Ian Hudson, president of the Publishers Association and deputy chief executive of the Random House Group, believes while it presents a great opportunity, he did not feel ereading is yet capable of doing for books what the iPod did for music.

He said: "In my view this is the best piece of equipment out there. But research has found that people have a high emotional attachment to physical books... so the industry is likely to be slower to change than the music sector."
