News: UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur award 2009 launched in Edinburgh

UKYPE09 The UK Young Publishing Entrepreneur (UKYPE) award highlights the contribution that entrepreneurs in the sector make to developing the UK’s publishing industry, by championing talented writers, biographers and academics, and through their understanding of the market.

The UKYPE award recognises that only a strong, vibrant and diverse UK industry can develop the local talent that the UK market demands. It is aimed at young entrepreneurs aged between 25 and 35, with three years' experience in publishing.

The award also gives four finalists the opportunity to find out more about the publishing industry in an emerging economy. The next big trend in publishing could come from anywhere in the world: quite simply, talent has a habit of appearing from the most unlikely places. Four finalists from UKYPE09 will visit India in January and February 2009 to take part in a tour of the industry that will introduce them to leading industry figures, allow them to network with their peers and provide them with a far better understanding of the market and the industry’s infrastructure in India.

The British Council and the London Book Fair are running this award, which was launched on 4 September 2008 at an evening reception at The Balmoral Hotel, Edinburgh, following the Publishing Scotland Conference.

The deadline for applications is 8 October 2008.
