News: Digital Publishing Forum - avoid losing control of your digital products - 20 May 2009
Speakers were Graham Bell (HarperCollins), Alicia Wise (Publishers Licensing Society) and Simon Juden (The Publishers Association).
Graham Bell explored the rationale for liberal DRM, and warned against handing power to the platform creators. Alicia Wise brandished the Excalibur of XML from the noble steed of ONIX as she looked into the' 'huge latent visibility in e-format and pdf', crucial for the 10% of the population which belongs to the print-disabled community - see below for their presentations.
Simon Juden gave a user-friendly summary of the practical implications of the Google Books Settlement - see www.googlebooksettlement.com and the flowchart and PA briefing below for more detailed information (please note that the deadline for opting out/filing objections and the date of the Fairness Hearing have now been moved to 4 September 2009 and 7 October 2009 respectively.)
