Copyright and the principles upon which it is based plays a critical role both for the PA and for the growth of the book, information and new digital industries.
Copyright provides the most practical legal and market framework for trading in works of the mind. The system provides both protection and fair reward to the author/creator (encouraging him/her to create/produce more), with safeguard, and therefore incentive, to the publisher who accepts the risk and cost of publishing or exploiting the author’s work, and invests in the production, market and distribution structures.
