BookExpo America

25 May - 27 May 2010

The USA market is the richest in the world, but needs special attention from UK publishers for any success to be achieved.  Net sales for US publishers were estimated at US$35.7bn in 2006; there were around 400 large and medium-sized publishers and 86,000 publishers in all, but the top 50 accounted for 80% of sales.  Trade sales accounted for 40% of the total, including religious books, which form 16% of trade sales, much higher than in the UK.  There were around 150,000 new titles published in 2006  of which 40,000 were produced by the trade publishers and university presses.

UK exports to the USA in 2007 were £212.9m, a slight reduction on 2006, probably due to the strength of sterling at that time.

BookExpo America 2009
The UK group at this year’s fair was slightly smaller due to the current financial situation.  However, there was still a strong presence with 35 companies in the main areas – art, children’s, travel, general and remainders. For photos of stands at previous fairs, please click here.
