Copyright infringement portal

Online criminals target the publishing industry in a number of ways. The spectrum of offences ranges from websites offering infringing copies of works to download, through peer-to-peer sharing of infringing copies, to the commercial sale of counterfeit copies of publications.  The Publishers Association has growing expertise in tackling each type of threat in an appropriate and effective manner. The PA’s Copyright Infringement Portal targets websites including P2P (torrents) offering infringing copies for free download, and will evolve during 2010 to include a tool to detect online infringements.

Copyright Infringement Portal – monitoring
We are frequently asked how regularly we review the success rate of takedown notices sent via the portal, and what the PA does to tackle unresponsive sites.  The portal generates daily statistics, and these are reviewed by a member of the PA team every Monday morning.  To illustrate, here is a summary from 15 February:
