World Book Day presentation to the trade

WBD logo Contributors to World Book Day’s annual presentation to the trade on Ist July 2008 were upbeat about the success of World Book Day 2008. Julie Meynink for Nielsen Bookscan reported a 2.4% increase in unit sales over the 7-week World Book Day period, rising to 14.7% for children’s sales.

Recorded sales of the World Book Day £1.00 books were the highest yet at slightly under one million copies across the nine titles. The Quick Reads titles for emergent readers also did well, and the series had strong endorsement from the adult education community and from readers themselves.

Philippa Dickinson of Random House, Chair World Book Day 2008, handed over to Neil Jewsbury Commercial Director of Waterstones whose ambition is to grow World Book Day yet further and maximise retail participation. World Book Day will continue to work with schools to support good causes including the Readathon charities and Book Aid International.
