National Year of Reading
The National Year of Reading (NYR) was launched to the general public in April 2008 and ran a series of events between April and December 2008 which highlighted the importance of reading and the value of library membership. Both the Publishers Association and the Booksellers Association pledged their support.
The work of the National Year of Reading continues in a new scheme known as Reading for Life, administered through the National Literacy Trust.
